This is the incredible story of Pamela Kimbro who changed her life because she wanted to make her father, who was watching her from heaven, proud. We came across her story here and simply had to share it with you.

Pamela had always struggled with weight for as long as she could remember. She was a chubby child, and grew up to be overweight as an adult too. But Pamela wasn’t the only one in her family with a weight issue. A lot of her immediate family members were overweight, and her father passed away due to pancreatic cancer.

The day that changed everything for her, though, was the one just a few weeks before her father’s death. Surrounded by his family, he sadly said that they were all unhealthy, and that that would be the reason for them dying young.

Those words struck a chord in Pamela. She vowed to make her father proud by becoming healthier and fitter, and no longer remaining overweight.

Having been overweight since a young age, Pamela had often attempted fad diets. Yet, nothing had worked. Until her father’s words gave her the inspiration and courage to move beyond diets and think more long term. It was a very difficult thing for her to do, but Pamela made lifestyle changes centered around her eating habits.

It wasn’t easy considering the fact that Pamela was an emotional eater. There were many times that food seemed too tempting thanks to difficult circumstances. But Pamela stayed true to her decision. She conducted a lot of research on the food categories, groups, and types, and chose to eat healthier, wholesome, and unprocessed foods.

The most difficult part, however, was giving up sodas. Pamela was addicted to sodas and drank up to 12 cans a day. She forced herself to cut these out of her intake immediately. She was faced with terrible withdrawal symptoms and spent many weeks crying as she battled the physical and emotional effects of the withdrawal. But, she forced herself to push through. Over time, Pamela went from 285 LBS to 135 LBS.

She weighed herself every alternate week so as to avoid being influenced, in one way or another, by the smaller fluctuations to which everyone’s weight is subjected. After a while, she began to incorporate exercise into her routine, doing whatever she found fun and that kept the heart rate up.

Being an emotional eater, there continue to be many opportunities where Pamela is tempted to go back to her old habits. What keeps her from straying is the fact that she misses her father very much; and she strongly believes that had he been healthier, he would not have been taken away by sickness. It is in his memory that she keeps going strong. He is the inspiration behind her new lifestyle.

Pamela is also incredibly supportive of her family and friends who gave her the emotional and mental shoulder to lean on that allowed her to not be overwhelmed by circumstances. A good support structure, she too believes, is integral to becoming healthy and fit.

Pamela found the support she needed to overcome her dependence on food. But not every person does. In fact, it is common to see people fail their endeavors to get healthy not because they don’t know what to do, but simply because they do not have the support that they need.
