Cindy Erwin did one of the most difficult things a person can do – recognized, acknowledged, and overcame an addiction, and went on to get healthy. When we read her incredible story, we knew that we just had to share it. You can read her full story here.

It isn’t easy to accept that you have an addiction, even if that addiction is to something like junk food, caffeine, or any other substance that has become an integral part of our lives. But that addiction can be what is stopping us from achieving our health targets.

This is what Cindy Erwin discovered after years of not realizing the actual problem that was holding her back from a long held dream – losing weight and getting fit.

Cindy did not believe herself to be someone who could stick to a particular diet or cut food groups out of her daily meals. The main reason for this was that she did not realize she had an addiction. She felt, instead, that is was just a part of who she was – someone who loved eating.

Then, thanks to a friend’s advice, she joined Overeaters Anonymous H.O.W. The 12-step program focused on people’s diets and how it played a role in determining one’s weight. Cindy had the support of her sponsor, and the many people who shared their stories through different phases of the program.

The eating plan determined by the program left out two foods that made up a large part of Cindy’s diet – white flour and white sugar. Since it was part of the plan, Cindy stuck by the decision to keep sugar and four out of her diet. The first couple of weeks weren’t easy as Cindy often had cravings for foods that contained these ingredients. However, Cindy realized that her cravings were due to her inability to break the habit on these two ingredients. The realization that her love for food had turned into an addiction to harmful food groups gave her the motivation to fight those cravings.

And, as she discovered, it became easier with each passing day. Cindy soon overcame her cravings and was able to give up flour and sugar altogether. In eight months, she had lost over 60 LBS! She continues to keep flour and sugar out of her diet and she does it without any effort at all now.

She doesn’t skip meals or miss eating at buffets. She just eats more of what she can and should, and none of what harms her. The result? She has finally lost her excess weight, is maintaining a healthy weight now, and has found the foods that make her feel healthy physically and emotionally!

Many people, like Cindy, find it difficult to give up certain foods because they look at it as something they’re sacrificing. This may make it easy to get started on that diet, but it cannot help you remain healthy over the long term. Good health is the result of a healthy lifestyle, in which food plays a very important role. The right guidance can help turn your food habits healthy and help you become the fit person you’ve always wanted to be.

Now imagine if this guidance came in the form of a personal dietitian who knew what you faced on a daily basis, understood your limitations, considered your taste preferences, and incorporated your health history and targets while designing the right, long term food plan for you. That is exactly what you get with the experienced nutrition therapists at LocalMasters.com. Furthermore, these dietitians will work with you at a time and place convenient to you.
