  • Practicing Meditation and Yoga Can Help You Stay Focused on Your Life Goals
  • yoga and meditation

Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique, such as focusing their mind on a particular object, thought or activity, to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state. It sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, it is. What one requires is only the willingness to go forward with it. Meditation has been practiced since ages in numerous traditions and beliefs. It has spread from its origins to other cultures where it is commonly practiced in private and business life.

The fact that it has seeped into the business life to relieve people of stress and overwork in their organizational environment only emphasizes its importance. Increased productivity, stamina, and an ability to remain calm even in a stressful surrounding are a few resultants of regular meditation. Meditation, therefore, is a part of YOGA and deals with mental relaxation and concentration. Yoga, on the other hand, is a category comprising meditation and focuses on the physical, mental and spiritual wellness of one’s body. All these also play a crucial role by helping one stay focused on their goals which can be done in the following ways

    (1) Being mindful

Practicing meditation for just a short period of time each day can greatly improve mental clarity and happiness levels. In this busy world, people rarely have the time for their health and thus resort to fast food and unhealthy eating habits that allow them to quickly revert to their workstations. A few peaceful minutes at any time of the day can help one concentrate better on not only their work but also on their mental health. It is most beneficial to practice meditation early in the morning, when fresh air prevails around us, before getting on duty as it gives a good start to one’s day. Being at peace and having a calm lifestyle is the foremost and most vital part of getting towards one’s success.

    (2) Fitness

Many yoga asanas (postures) have a profound effect on specific parts of one’s body like the arms, legs, core, etc. Essentially any pose will strengthen an area of the body if it is practiced in the right way, without putting too much stress on specific muscle groups. Moreover, yoga also stretches other soft tissues in the body such as ligaments and tendons, increasing the range of motion in the joints and allowing you to move around more freely.

    (3) Presence of mind

Practicing yoga and meditation sharpen the mind so that you can see reality clearly. Yoga and its holistic approach teach us to explore varied horizons of life by being present in the moment. The same principle can be applied to our lives to be prosperous.

    (4) Energetic and optimistic

Yoga stimulates the serotonin hormones in the brain which drives one’s happiness quotient and make them optimistic. Regular practice of yoga and meditation make one not only happy and satisfied but energetic as it concentrates the core energy towards a focused goal, instead of letting it slip into distractions. Moreover, energy and optimism attract development and success.

    (5) Health and nutrition

Yoga helps to decrease the appetite, aids in digestion and increases metabolism. It also helps in lowering blood sugar level and bad cholesterol but helps boost good cholesterol. It encourages weight loss and improves the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Additionally, the relaxation exercises in yoga regulate blood to all parts of the body and back to the lungs for oxygenation.

    (6) Humble and kind

Meditation and Yoga both teach how to treat every human being as equal and to be humble, kind and compassionate. Following this principle in life, people increase their chances to be successful human beings.
